About

William Michael Barbee is a successful businessman, mental health advocate, filmmaker, and published author. He has been a resident in the Township of West Orange for over 20 years. As a businessman, he ran several companies for over twenty years, while impacting the lives of many throughout Essex County. His entrepreneurial strengths lie in business development, strategic planning, budgeting, and the execution of business plans. As an advocate for the mental and behavioral health communities, William Michael has always fought to ensure that resources are provided to the residents of West Orange and surrounding cities.  In his role as Board Secretary of the Mental Health Association, William Michael has been at the forefront of the collaborative efforts between the West Orange Police Department and MHA - Mental Health Association of Essex and Morris, ensuring that the police are trained when dealing with individuals with mental health conditions. Simultaneously, MHA reviews the body cam footage with the West Orange Police Department. That program has become the model program for the State of New Jersey. Finally, as a founding member and present Chairman of the Development Committee for the Health Care Foundation of the Oranges, William Michael has overseen health fairs and other health care-related activities that benefited the residents of Essex County. William Michael is ready and determined to represent the residents of the Township of West Orange.

The Community

William Michael continues to use his resources to ensure that the residents of West Orange's mental and emotional needs are addressed.  During the outbreak of COVID19, William Michael created opportunities for the residents, and health care providers could meet and interact. At the South Mountain Reservoir, he spearheaded his first annual health fair. Vendors came and provided services that ranged from free yoga classes to Holistic Therapy. In addition, William Michael and a group of friends continue to exercise weekly at the reservoir. At times, William Michael uses his contacts to bring professional trainers to stretch the weekly walkers and runners. This has gone on for over two years, and it continues today.
